South Australia Police
South Australia Police (SAPOL) is part of the Justice Portfolio of the Government of South Australia and operates under a legislative framework prescribed under the Police Act 1998.
SAPOL is led by the Commissioner of Police, who reports directly to the Minister for Police.
SAPOL has six core functions prescribed in the Police Act 1998. They are to:
- uphold the law
- preserve the peace
- prevent crime
- assist the public in emergency situations
- coordinate and manage responses to emergencies
- regulate road use and prevent vehicle collisions
