SA Metropolitan Fire Service
The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) is a statutory authority established to administer the provisions of the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Services Act 1936.
The MFS is committed to protecting life, property and the environment from the effects of fire and other dangers. It not only attends to fires, but personnel also called to:
- road crash rescue
- gas leaks
- chemical spillages
- rescues
- structural collapse
- animal rescues
- storm damage
- lockouts
- flooding and
- smoke alarms and private alarms
The MFS protects 95% of the population of South Australia from these emergency situations.
The MFS is also committed to preventing fires and other emergencies. It runs programs to educate the public in fire and road safety and ensures that legislated fire safety requirements are incorporated into buildings. When major structure fires do occur the MFS investigates the cause and takes steps to prevent a re-occurrence.
