Police Complaints Authority
The Police Complaints Authority is an independent authority which answers directly to Parliament. The Authority is entirely independent of South Australia Police.
The Police Complaints Authority:
- Receives complaints about the conduct of police officers
- Maintains a register of complaints lodged both with the Authority and with the police
- Oversees complaint investigations conducted by South Australia Police
- Investigates certain complaints itself
- Assesses the merits of complaints
- Resolves complaints by conciliation where possible
- Recommends disciplinary or other action
- Reports to Parliament on the handling of complaints about police
